About SmartCredit.io¶
SmartCredit.io is a DeFi lending platform focused on making crypto-backed credit accessible and transparent. The platform allows users to borrow against their crypto assets, providing a bridge between the liquidity of DeFi and the credit needs of individual users.
Like most DeFi lending protocols, SmartCredit.io had built solid technology — but faced a fundamental growth challenge: converting the wallets that connected to their platform into users who actually transacted.
The Challenge¶
SmartCredit.io was experiencing a version of the problem that affects virtually every DeFi protocol: strong top-of-funnel numbers with poor bottom-of-funnel conversion.
High connection rate, low transaction rate. Wallets were connecting — showing genuine interest in the platform — but the large majority left without executing a transaction. The industry average connect-to-transact rate is approximately 10%, and SmartCredit.io was not significantly outperforming this baseline.

The Solution¶

Step 1: Understanding Who Was Connecting¶
The first revelation came from ChainAware's Web3 User Analytics Dashboard. By analysing the on-chain behaviour of SmartCredit.io's connecting wallets, ChainAware provided a detailed breakdown of their actual audience:

Received advanced product information immediately: collateralisation ratios, interest rate models, liquidity depth. No hand-holding. Direct path to the core product.
DeFi Curious (Newer Wallets)
Received an educational onboarding sequence: what DeFi lending is, why SmartCredit.io is different, what a first borrow looks like step by step. Lower-commitment initial CTA (calculate your potential rate, rather than "borrow now").
Long-Term Holders
Received messaging focused on security, stability, and the SmartCredit.io track record. Trust signals, audit results, platform reliability. Staking and low-risk lending options highlighted.
Step 3: Personalised On-Chain Messaging¶
ChainAware's Growth Agents delivered personalised messages directly to wallets that had connected but not transacted. These on-chain messages were tailored to each wallet's segment — not generic "come back" prompts, but specific, relevant value propositions matched to the wallet's history and likely motivations.
Step 4: Integration via Google Tag Manager¶
The entire integration was implemented through Google Tag Manager — no backend engineering was required on SmartCredit.io's side. ChainAware's GTM tag:
- Fires on wallet connect events
- Passes the wallet address to ChainAware's API
- Returns segment data to the GTM data layer
- SmartCredit.io's existing GTM tags use data layer variables to personalise the experience

Results¶
Over the six months following ChainAware integration:
8x User Engagement¶
Engagement across SmartCredit.io's platform — measured by time on site, feature interaction, calculator usage, and return visits — increased eightfold. The primary driver: users were now receiving experiences relevant to their actual needs, rather than a generic landing page.
2x Primary Conversions¶
The conversion rate from wallet connect to completed transaction doubled. Wallets that previously connected and left were now completing their first borrow or lend transaction at twice the historical rate.
Dramatically Improved Attribution¶
With wallet-level segmentation, SmartCredit.io could see exactly which wallet types converted, with what messaging, through which channels. Marketing budget could be allocated based on which segments actually generated revenue — not vanity metrics like wallet connects.
Fraud Reduction¶
